Welcome to the Engineering Transfer Program web site!
I am Gil Cruz, P.E., a faculty member in the Engineering Transfer Program.
So, you are planning to be or thinking about being an engineer, and
you are beginning your higher academic career here at Las Positas College.
We believe you made a wise choice. The administration, faculty and staff
have made a strong commitment to the success of the Engineering
Transfer Program. Let me tell you a little about the Program.
This accredited and articulated program will provide lower division
engineering, mathematics, and science courses to prepare students to
transfer to a four-year institution to pursue an engineering degree.
We are dedicated to providing an opportunity for an education that will
allow you, the student, to be competitive at any university you choose
to attend.
The engineering field is at once challenging, rewarding, and dynamic.
Engineering as a profession, continues to go through a period of rapid
change and growth, impacting virtually every aspect of our lives. Opportunities
for students in this career field are endless.
A career in engineering offers many options: Aeronautical, Mechanical,
Materials, Electrical, Industrial, Optical, Computer, Biological Systems,
and Chemical Engineering. These are just some of the many engineering
specialties offered by the California State University, the University
of California, and private universities.
The Engineering Transfer Program at Las Positas College has been designed
in line with the University of California, the California State University
and some private universities. The course of study is for transfer and
does not confer a degree. It is based on recommendations of the California
Engineering Liaison Council and is designed to prepare you for junior
standing upon transfer to universities in California in any major branch
of engineering.
Also on this web site, you will find information that describes course
offerings, outlines and a syllabus for each course. The program described
in the brochures is notional, in that it may take more than two years
to complete. You have to be math ready to take some of the engineering
and physics courses. However, when you have completed the required transfer
courses, you matriculate to your chosen university as a junior-level
student. Be apprised that transfer requirements differ from major-to-major
and college- to-college. Meeting with a counselor and me is strongly
recommended to help optimize your time at Las Positas College.
Our students have demonstrated a high level of success at the UC, CSU,
and private universities. Here the student reaps the benefits of having
a small student-to-faculty ratio. You receive more personalized attention
and guidance from a dedicated faculty, who are committed to your success.
I personally invite you contact me for information about the Engineering
Transfer Program. I can be contacted by phone at (925) 373-4979, or
via e-mail at gcruz@laspositascollege.edu,
or just stop by my office in Room 1808 on campus. I look forward to
talking with you.
Remember:
Think of Engineering for a career choice - the rewards are many!
