Chat Room Java Security Error

Solution Chat room in Blackboard is unable to launch due to a Java Security Error.
This appears to be an issue with the way the latest Java and Blackboard interact with each other. There is a workaround for both Internet Explorer and Chrome. NOTE: It does not work in Firefox at the time of this writing (6/22/15).

First, uninstall the latest Java:
http://www.wikihow.com/Uninstall-a-Program-in-Windows-8

Once that is done, download and install Java 7 Update 79 from here: https://www.java.com/en/download/manual_java7.jsp

Once that is done, the Chat Tool should work in IE. You might need to log out of Blackboard and log in again to refresh the settings.

If you want to use Chrome, follow these additional instructions to enable the plugin: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/6213033

Please let us know if this doesn't solve the issue.
